US-based medical virtual assistant companies: what exists and what to ask
Practices search for "US-based medical virtual assistant companies" for one of two reasons: a contract requires it, or they assume it means better. The first is real and checkable; the second is not supported by what providers publish.

Why so few providers are US-based
The economics. A US medical assistant's loaded cost is $28–$35 an hour; a provider has to charge above that. The market for dedicated remote administrative staff at $8–$13 an hour exists because the talent is in Latin America and the Philippines. US-based "virtual receptionist" companies exist, but they are shared answering services billed per minute, not dedicated assistants in your EHR.
What's published
Among the ten providers in our shortlist, one publishes a US-based plan: Wishup, at $5,400 a month, with no HIPAA statement on its pricing page. US answering services (Ruby, Abby Connect, PATLive) are US-based but shared and per-minute. No healthcare-only provider in our shortlist publishes a US-based dedicated-assistant price.
Contracts that may require US-based staff
- Some state Medicaid managed-care contracts restrict offshore access to member data; check your participation agreements.
- Some payer contracts and federal programme rules restrict offshore handling of specific data.
- Cyber-insurance policies sometimes carry terms about offshore access; read the exclusions.
- Internal policy at health systems that own or affiliate with your practice.
If none of these applies, the US-based requirement is a preference, and an expensive one.
If you need US hours but not US residence
Latin American providers (MedicalVirtual, Virtual Latinos) supply assistants working US time zones as their own daytime, with Spanish as standard. For the administrative work most practices delegate, that resolves the practical reasons people want US-based staff — alertness, time zone, language — at offshore prices.
Frequently asked

Not a healthcare-only one with a published dedicated-assistant price. Wishup publishes a US-based generalist plan at $5,400 a month; US answering services are shared and per-minute.
